New York. Holy COW!
It's huge, and it's rather mind-boggling.
Wednesday was flying, flying, and more flying. (1st class though... :) SO I can't really complain.) We had dinner at an amazing Mediterrainian restaurant, call Akendez. The "Sultan's Delight" was to die for. We also watched Bill Clinton's speech.
Thursday we went to the Empire State Building, which was neat, but not worth the hour-long wait. But maybe that's just me. Um, we walked, A LOT (maybe 30,000 steps? Or close?) My ankle was killing me at the end, but so were everyone else's.
Central park, too. It is HUGE! And absolutely gorgeous.
THe most fun was going to FAO Shwartz and playing on the Giant Piano, the one from Big. CHelsea and I played Heart and Soul. It sorta worked. :)
We had dinner at a Pub called Maggie's Place, and I got the Shepherd's Pie. It was pretty good too.
Oh, and that evening, they were playing Obama's speech on the screens at Times Square. (Our hotel is the Hotel At Times Square.)
Friday we went to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The Statue was amazing, but we didn't get tickets in time, so we couldn't go inside. And if you can't go inside, the entire thing is pretty much a bust. Ellis Island was pretty neat, and we met a couple there from Peru who had thought they were getting off at New York, but in reality were getting off on Ellis Island, so we talked for a bit.
We wandered around Times Square later that evening, after dinner (We ate at the Stage Deli. THe sandwiches were INSANE. Literally, THREE INCHES of meat.)
Oh, and did you know that there is a US Armed Forces Recruiting Station, RIGHT in the MIDDLE of TImes Square? I mean, like, RIGHT in the middle. Big ol' American Flag and all. Very strange, if you ask me. Anyway...
It rained some, but it was generally quite nice. :)
And who aside from me thinks that McCain's Veep is rather random and Alaska-Obsessed? I mean, where did she come from? Totally out of the blue.
Sorry. :)
So, today, we're going to run around the city some more, enjoy the weather, shop (of course).
I shared my breakfast table with a woman from Venezuela today. GOtta love the diversity.
g2g now.
See y'all later
